.eu 10% year-over-year growth
Brussels, 6 September 2010 – EURid, the registry for the .eu top-level domain (TLD), issued today its quarterly progress report for Q2 2010, revealing a 10% year-over-year increase in .eu web address registrations when compared to Q2 2009.
.eu maintained its position in the top-ten of the world’s largest TLDs with 3 211 948 registered .eu domain names reported at the end of Q2 2010.
April is the anniversary of the .eu launch, and therefore there is usually negative growth within the second quarter due to the large number of registrations that are up for renewal. While this was still the case in Q2 2010, the landrush impact was lessened this quarter by a very high renewal rate of 85% which is considerably above the industry average and more than 6% above EURid’s monthly average.
.eu web addresses became increasingly popular in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Lithuania as registrations from these EU countries grew by more than 35% in the past year.
Other quarterly report highlights include:
- Fourth anniversary of .eu launch
- Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) implemented for .eu
- .eu Insights, a new series of in-depth reports, published by EURid
- ICANN Meeting No 38 hosted by EURid.
