.eu now supports all official EU languages

Brussels, 10 December 2009 – EURid is pleased to announce that internationalised domain names (IDNs) became available today under the .eu top-level domain. For the first time, residents of the European Union can register a .eu domain name that uses characters from the whole Latin, Cyrillic or Greek alphabets; for example the Polish ł, the Spanish ñ, the Danish ø, the French é, the Bulgarian л and the Greek θ.

“IDNs allow individuals to show their national roots, as well as their European identity on the Internet,” comments Marc Van Wesemael, EURid’s General Manager. “This is a great opportunity for both companies and private persons to promote their brands and names with a .eu web address in their native languages.”

Will the city of Bucharest start using București.eu? Will the Åland islands start using Åland.eu? That remains to be seen. .eu domain names, including IDNs, are available on a first-come, first-served basis. This is why people who want a .eu IDN should act quickly to get the domain name they want.

Register the .eu name you want through an accredited registrar. You can search for one by language, location or name at: http://www.eurid.eu/en/get-eu/choose-registrar.Please note that not all registrars handle IDN registrations.
