Young coders, big ideas: EURid joins CodeWeek 2026

News13 paź 20262 minuty czytaj

What happens when you introduce children to coding, robots and the inner workings of the Internet? Curiosity takes over, questions start flowing, and a few future digital innovators might just discover their passion!

This October, EURid is once again joining forces with the European Code Week initiative to bring digital learning to more than 300 primary school pupils through four activities across four countries.

From writing their first lines of Python to programming robots and exploring the history of the Internet, here is what is happening across Europe.

Pisa, Italy: travelling through the history of coding

On 13 October, primary school pupils in Pisa will explore the history of coding and discover the basics of the Internet with EURid. The session will be followed by a guided visit to the Museo del Calcolo, where the history of computing comes to life. A chance to see just how far technology has come, from early calculating tools to the digital world children use every day!

Stockholm, Sweden: robots, ready, code!

On 15 and 16 October, pupils in Stockholm will get hands-on with two exciting topics: how the Internet works and how to programme robots using Arduino. Organised in cooperation with Solna and Bergshamra libraries, Kosmosklubben and EURid, the workshops will give children the opportunity to explore the technology behind the screens and see their code turn into action.

Prague, Czechia: Python is on the menu

On 14 and 21 October, four sixth-grade classes at ZŠ Červený vrch will spend two half-days discovering Python, one of the world's widely used programming languages. With lecturers from TIB guiding the sessions, pupils will get an introduction to coding and the logic behind it.

Tocha, Portugal: learning by doing

On 19 October, 64 sixth-grade pupils from two classes at Escola Básica e Secundária João Garcia Bacelar will take part in a coding activity in Portugal. The workshop will give pupils the opportunity to explore digital skills and discover how coding helps turn ideas into something real.

Building digital confidence, one activity at a time

Digital skills are becoming increasingly important in everyday life, education and future careers. Introducing children to coding and the Internet at an early age can help them understand the technology around them, develop problem-solving skills and feel more confident exploring the digital world.

Through our CodeWeek activities, EURid is helping make these topics approachable for young learners, one question, one line of code and one robotic move at a time.
