EURid in action: Q2 2025 highlights
The second quarter of 2025 was a dynamic period for EURid, marked by strategic engagement across Europe to help shape the future of the internet while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and stakeholder collaboration.
In April, EURid representatives participated in the Global Multistakeholder High Level Conference in Brussels, contributing to forward-looking discussions on inclusive governance models for Web 4.0 and virtual worlds. Later that month, EURid co-organised The Prague Dialogue, a key event addressing disinformation and democratic resilience through the multistakeholder model.
In May, EURid joined the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) in Strasbourg, leading a session on data, trust, and age verification. This session also featured active input from the EURid Youth Committee, underscoring the importance of intergenerational dialogue in digital policy. The quarter also included contributions to the 20th anniversary celebration and review of the Internet Governance Forum, highlighting EURid’s continued commitment to inclusive and transparent internet governance.
Environmental responsibility remained a cornerstone of EURid’s work. To mark Earth Day 2025, the registry spotlighted its EMAS certification and supported local tree planting projects in Belgium, helping to offset CO₂ emissions with over 360 new plants.
EURid also reaffirmed its support for innovation and SMEs by taking part in EUIPO’s Ideas Powered for Business event in Alicante, which addressed how intellectual property can drive growth.
Connecting with stakeholders remained a priority throughout the quarter. In June, EURid engaged directly with registrars and industry stakeholders at the We Make Future event in Bologna. This provided a valuable opportunity to discuss digital trends, exchange insights, and strengthen relationships within the domain name ecosystem.
By the numbers – Q2 2025: As of the end of the quarter, there were 3,737,025 .eu domain names under management, including 37,329 Internationalised Domain Name (IDN) registrations. The renewal rate stood at a strong 84%. Germany, the Netherlands, and France remained the top three countries in terms of registrations by country of registrant.
