In 2024, EURid focused on improving the security and reliability of the .eu infrastructure, enhancing the quality of service for stakeholders, and strengthening community engagement.
One of the year’s key achievements was the launch of EURidity, a system that automates Know Your Customer (KYC) checks during the domain name registration process. This helps ensure more accurate data and reduces the risk of domain name abuse. It also streamlines how domain names are verified or revoked, which means fewer legitimate names are mistakenly suspended.
To enhance performance and reliability, EURid upgraded its data centres in Luxembourg and Amsterdam, increasing system redundancy and ensuring more robust service delivery. Alongside these technical improvements, EURid introduced new policies to meet NIS2 Directive requirements and successfully passed the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) compliance audit, reaffirming its commitment to both cybersecurity and environmental responsibility.
In terms of community outreach, EURid continued to work closely with its registrar network, achieving a Net Promoter Score of 77 in the 2024 Registrar Satisfaction Survey and engaging with more than 100 registrars through meetings and events across Europe. In addition, EURid participated in dozens of industry events and supported digital skills development by taking part in CodeWeek 2024, reaching over 350 students with hands-on workshops in coding, robotics, and digital literacy.
“Each achievement in 2024 is a testament to our commitment to operational excellence, stakeholder trust, and a secure online environment,” said Peter Janssen, EURid’s General Manager. “As we enter 2025, EURid remains focused on building a resilient and inclusive internet, one .eu domain name at a time.”
