The Domain Name Industry Brief for the second quarter of 2025 shows steady growth across the global domain name landscape, an increase of 3.3 million compared to Q1 2025, and 9.3 million year-on-year, with .eu maintaining its strong position among the top 10 largest country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) worldwide.
Country code TLDs (ccTLDs) reached 143.4 million registrations, with the top 10, including .eu, representing over half of all ccTLD registrations worldwide. New generic TLDs (ngTLDs) saw the highest percentage growth this quarter, up 4.6% compared to Q1 and 14.2% year-on-year, reaching a total of 39.5 million registrations.
The report also highlights varying renewal rates across TLDs. Among the top 10 ccTLDs, .eu achieved an 84.0% renewal rate, reflecting continued trust and engagement from its community. In contrast, some new gTLDs showed renewal rates below 15%, underlining the importance of long-term stability in domain name choice.
These trends show a healthy and competitive global domain name market, with established extensions such as .eu maintaining a strong position alongside fast-growing new entrants.
