We are committed to demonstrating that sustainability is achievable, even in the digital space. Since 2012, we have been certified by the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), underscoring our dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. Our registration number is BE-VL-000016.
The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a voluntary management tool that allows companies and other organisations to evaluate, report on, and improve their environmental performance. This scheme helps companies optimise their processes, reduce their environmental impact and make more efficient use of resources.
EURid’s Environmental Statement (PDF) outlines our environmental policy, objectives, and activity programme for the coming years.
The EMAS registration formalises our ongoing activities and demonstrates our public commitment to further improving our environmental footprint. Our activities include, but are not limited to:
Greener procurement: We apply environmentally friendly criteria when purchasing goods (with a special focus on IT equipment) and services (with a special focus on data centres, network access, travel, and leasing cars).
Best practices: We encourage staff to actively participate in our sustainability programme and share our best practices with industry peers and stakeholders in order to enhance their involvement in environmental activities and projects.
Headquarter operations: As tenants of our office space, we regularly liaise with the building’s management in order to reduce our environmental impact (energy, water, waste). We also carefully manage our e-waste, paying special attention to reuse and recycling.
The digital world is one of the fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. In view of this, since 2014 we have calculated our remaining emissions after our reduction efforts and have then offset the total amount by purchasing emission reductions from high-value projects. To offset our 2023 emissions, in 2024 we participated in high-value reforestation and agricultural plantation projects in Belgium via PlantC. We will be planting more than 2,000 trees and an orchard to promote biodiversity.
