Following the .eu 20th anniversary celebrations in Q2, the third quarter offered an opportunity to reflect on two decades of .eu and its continued role in Europe’s digital environment, while looking ahead to the issues shaping the internet.
From exploring who runs the internet in Europe and .eu’s role in European digital identity to offering practical guidance for startups choosing a domain name in 2026, EURid continued to share knowledge and contribute to discussions on a trusted, inclusive and sustainable European internet.
Other quarterly highlights
EURid took part in the 20th edition of the European Summer School on Internet Governance (EuroSSIG), held from 26 July to 1 August in Meissen, Germany. The programme brought together fellows and faculty from around the world for a multistakeholder learning experience exploring the many dimensions of internet governance.
The nomination period for the 2026 .eu Web Awards ran throughout September, attracting 192 nominations from 22 countries. The strong geographical reach highlighted the diversity of websites and online initiatives using .eu and made this another truly European edition of the awards.
EURid would like to thank IAB Europe, which concluded its membership with EURid during the quarter, for its engagement and contribution over the years. Through its representatives, IAB Europe helped bring valuable ideas, perspectives and expertise to the exchange of knowledge within the .eu community.
