22 April marks Earth Day 2025, and this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” is a global call to unite around renewable energy and accelerate the shift to a cleaner, greener future. The goal is ambitious but essential: to triple clean electricity by 2030.
At EURid, the registry manager of the .eu top-level domain, sustainability is not just a once-a-year focus – it is an integral part of how we operate. We are proud to have been EMAS-certified (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) since 2012, a commitment that reflects our long-standing dedication to environmental responsibility and transparent reporting.
As part of our commitment, we have taken continual steps to reduce our environmental footprint as much as possible, through energy-saving practices, responsible travel policies, and efficient digital infrastructure. For the emissions we cannot avoid, we invest in certified offsetting initiatives, such as tree and hedge planting projects, to balance our remaining carbon footprint. We believe in leading by example and working with our wider community to create lasting, positive change – both online and offline.
Currently, EURid is supporting seven plantation projects in collaboration with PlantC in order to offset its CO₂ emissions. In May, EURid will be visiting the villages of Suxy and Prouvy in Belgium, where we took part in the planting of 203 trees (representing 16.30 tonnes of CO₂ sequestered over 30 years) and 159 hedge seedlings (representing 5.53 tonnes of CO₂ sequestered over 30 years). These visits are an opportunity to gain further insight into these local efforts and how they contribute to restoring ecosystems and promoting long-term environmental health.
This Earth Day, we encourage our stakeholders and community to get involved:
🌱 You can find or create an Earth Action event via the official Earth Day map, and help spread the word on social media and within your networks.
