EURid environmental project in Uganda completes solar installation

4 mars 2019

EURid, the .eu and .ею registry manager, has supported the installation of a solar system and lighting at the Amunamun Primary School in Uganda. This achievement is part of the Uganda Borehole Rehabilitation project in which EURid invests to offset its 2017 CO2 emissions.

Light is key to give education to 1,173 pupils in this school that did not have access to electricity. The installation on the solar system and lighting system was completed by the end of January and provides two solar panels, 20 LED lights and a 12V battery. This will improve the pupil’s education by allowing them to study at night, as currently they have no way of reading once it gets dark. The light provided by the project will give the pupils extra hours of study, helping them to progress in their education.

The project moves forward this month with the installation of hand washing points and water, sanitation and hygiene training and meets four sustainable development goals: good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation and affordable and clean energy. The aim of the Ugandan Borehole project is to better this situation by working with local communities to repair broken boreholes in order to restore access to clean, safe drinking water.
