Update on Brexit related domain names

10 Feb. 2021

On 1 January 2021, over 81 000 domain names whose registrants had GB/GI as country code were moved to the “SUSPENDED” status. As of today, over 8 000 of these domain names have been reinstated.

We would hereby like to update you that these domain names will remain in “SUSPENDED” status until 30 June 2021 instead of the previously published date, 31 March 2021. This extension of three months provides registrar and registrants that have not yet updated their registration data the opportunity to demonstrate their compliance with the .eu regulatory framework.

On 1 July 2021 the domain names will be placed in the “WITHDRAWN” status. A domain name in the “SUSPENDED” status can no longer support any service (such as website and email), but may still be reinstated if the registration data is updated to meet the eligibility criteria.

Registration data may be updated by indicating a legally established entity in one of the eligible EU27 or EEA Member State, or by updating their residence to a EU27 or EEA Member State, or proving their citizenship of a EU27 Member State irrespective of their residence.

Should you be an affected domain name holder, we urge you to contact your registrar (the company through which you registered the domain name) and update the domain name(s) contact address or citizenship as soon as possible. Your registrar information can be found in the WHOIS database. When the update of the domain name contact is completed, please send us a message to [email protected] with the domain name included.

Please consult the Brexit notice page for further information.
