EURid: first TLD to join successful No More Ransom (NMR) project

31 May 2021

EURid is proud to announce its partnership with NMR. The No More Ransom project is a non-commercial and non-political public-private initiative launched on 25 July 2016, created using the platform www.nomoreransom.org.

The relevant information available on this platform includes, but is not limited to:

- Decryption tools for select existing ransomware families;

- Tips and advice to prevent users from becoming victims of ransomware attacks;

- Direct links to the national police agencies of EU Member States and beyond to encourage citizens to report cases.

The NMR project currently works in 37 languages and with more than 160 partners. It also has over 100 decryption tools, capable of decrypting more than 100 ransomware families.

Since the launch, these tools have been downloaded over 4 million times, preventing criminals from pocketing an estimated 600 million dollars.

“EURid is very excited to join the NMR project as a Supporting Partner. Ransomware has risen at an alarming rate in the past year, and has brought critical services such as hospitals and governments to a standstill. Celebrating its fifth anniversary in July 2021, the No More Ransom project is helping victims fight back against hackers with quality decryption tools. EURid will support this project by helping to raise awareness among the general public and educating online users about the risks of ransomware and the availability of decryption tools”, commented Geo Van Langenhove, Legal Manager at EURid.
