UPDATE on introducing the .eu eligibility for EEA Citizens

29 July 2020

On July 16 EURid announced that the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) had reached an agreement with the EEA to incorporate Regulation 517/2019 into the EEA agreement thereby extending the citizenship rule to EEA nationals.

EURid has since been informed that the decision to enter the regulation into a formal application is waiting for a EEA-EFTA MS to lift a constitutional requirement and therefore the eligibility will be postponed until we have further notice.

Should this rule become effective, this new regulation will allow EEA citizens from Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland to register .eu and its variant scripts domain names regardless of their place of residence.
Further information will be shared in a timely manner.
