Over 36 000 suspended domain names withdrawn

2 Oct. 2018

On 2 October 2018, EURid withdrew 36 520 domain names that were previously suspended due to non-eligible registration data, of which some have been reported for abuse. Where “suspended” domain names are still registered, withdrawn domain names have a direct impact on registration numbers.

With actions as such, our focus is on the safety of online consumers and ensuring a quality .eu and .ею domain space. Via close collaborative efforts with law enforcement and our partners, on a national, international and European level, as well as with our registrar channel, we continue to work towards building the most trustworthy domain name space, taking a stand against abusive registrations and illegal activity online.

“With our thorough internal verification procedure, we continuously monitor domain names for potential abuse, leading to tens of thousands of suspensions on an annual basis, eventually leading to withdrawal and revocation of these domain names”, said Geo Van Langenhove, EURid Legal Manager.
