More ways for registrants to confirm their registration data
Trust in the .eu TLD space can only be ensured when the information contained in any EURid-maintained database is accurate and up-to-date.
EURid carries out checks on registration data on a regular basis, and, eventually, invites registrants to provide evidence of their correctness.
To speed up the checking process, EURid is introducing a Know-Your-Customer (KYC) project that allows registrants to provide evidence of their identity using speedy automated systems.
Two verification methods will be launched on 24 March 2021:
Verification via MRZ scan and SMS
The registrant will first receive a text message containing a unique URL. The link will open a newly developed application that guides the registrant through the process of scanning the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) of their identity document. Most official travel or identity documents contain an MRZ with encoded information relating to personal data (such as the holder’s full name, citizenship, and the document number). This verification method is supported in all 24 official languages of the European Union.
Verification via electronic identity card
Using the chip on the identity document and a card reader, a digital signature and address information are read by our secure system. Belgian citizens with an eID card will be able to verify their identity securely and instantaneously.
Registrants will still have the standard option of uploading any document to confirm registration data manually on My.eu.
My.eu will become the go-to portal for the verification of registration data, thereby linking the authorised user of a mailbox to their verification data.
Private individuals can also confirm the registration data of a domain name assigned to a company.
