EURid has released its 2022 Annual Report, showcasing its commitment to a secure online environment and innovation via an update on statistics, achievements, and financial records.
EURid's portfolio compared to the previous year saw a slight decrease of 0.3% resulting in a total of 3,702,264 domain name registrations. Luxembourg emerged as the country with the highest annual net increase, boasting an impressive growth rate of 22%. Germany, with over one million .eu registrations, secured its position as the leader in .eu domain name registrations, closely followed by the Netherlands and France.
In 2022, EURid solidified its role as the entrusted .eu TLD registry manager by signing a new service concession contract with the European Commission. This landmark agreement ensures the continuation of EURid's registry management services for the .eu domain until October 2027. Demonstrating the significance of collaborative efforts, EURid renewed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with esteemed partners such as ICANN, EUIPO, Scamadviser, and GASA.
Additional milestones achieved throughout 2022 included the appointment of Peter Janssen as the new General Manager of EURid and a comprehensive .eu web categorization study, which indicated a noteworthy 1.5% increase in the Tourism and Accommodation sectors, displaying the positive impact of the .eu TLD in these industries.
EURid also hosted its inaugural .eu Day, an event that celebrated the power of the .eu domain and fostered a sense of community among its stakeholders. The event culminated in the announcement of the seven exceptional winners of the ninth .eu Web Awards during a captivating ceremony held on 17 November in Mechelen, Belgium.
